Winget, 84, an administrative executive who played an instrumental role in developing the computer industry in the Twin Cities, died of cancer Friday at his home in Minneapolis. He earned a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology and taught military officers and signal corps trainees at the institute during World War II. In 1946 he was recruited by Engineering Research Associates in St. Paul, a fledgling computer company. He was director of sales for four years and became director of contract administration before the company was sold to Remington Rand, an early computer manufacturer that became UNIVAC.

His knowledge and business savvy helped Remington Rand land several technically complex computer program projects with the Department of Defense.
