He was a Cudahy Packing Plant Union Officer, Executive Assistant, Wage Stabilization Board; Representative of Electrical Workers Union; Secretary of Compensation Insurance Board, Analyst in Minnesota Insurance Division.

Served on various other insurance and political committees. Appointed Minnesota State Commissioner of Insurance, April 6, 1971. Lifelong democrat, who served under Governors Freeman, Anderson and Perpich. Memorial service will be held at Unity Church Unitarian, located at Portland Ave. Grotto St.

He was reunited with his parents and identical twin brother Roger on July 21, 1997. Brian was a retired employee of the U.S. Postal Service and well remembered for his tireless work in the veteran's community particularly the issue. He served with honor in Vietnam and was a proud American.

Florence was born in rural Osseo, MN, on October 24, 1903, to Alma Goetze Hartkopf Henry Otto Hartkopf. She died on July 21, 1997 after a brief illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce E. Russell. She attended rural schools and after her parents moved to public schools and Vocational High School and Mpls.

Business College. She was employed as a Telephone Operator at Norwestern Bell and later as a secretary at several firms. Married in 1928, she was the beloved wife, of Bruce of 52 years. She is survived by a son, James his wife, Joan; daughter, Shirley her husband, Robert Holt; along with 7 grandchildren, Carolyn Grand of Toronto, Canada, Bruce, John and James Russell all of Susan Fisher, Ann Reves, and Sharon Holt all of 8 great 3 nieces, Audrey Alford, Ruth Young, and Florence Ann Allegretti; and nephew, Baldwin Hartkopf; a wonderfully tender and loving mother and grandmother who was thoughtfully and deeply concerned about the well-being of her extended family. She was able to convey these feelings until the end.

He was a member of MEO. Fox Hounds, Rotary, and Lafayette Club, Madeline Island Yacht Club, and many civic organizations. Having a contagious optimism and zest for life. Ralph always lived in the present. He shouldered a lot of responsibility in business and family matters.

Ralph encouraged others to do their best and persevere no matter what the hardship. He may have had a damaged heart, but was very generous with it. Ralph dealt with endstage cardiomyopathy and did battle with his heart arrhythmias with incredible courage and a fierce will to live. He lived every moment to the fullest. His family thanks the cardiac care units at Scottsdale N.

Memorial Hospital, and Abbott NW Hospital for being SO attentive to his care and comfort. Ralph's life is an inspiration to us and we shall remember him always.
