Obituaries PAGE B6 STAR TRIBUNE MONDAY, JUNE 30 1997 Also noted Stuart Gang dies at 68; was chairman of advertising, public relations firm Norman Pittenger, 91, a priest who wrote "Time for Consent," a book that helped gain acceptance for gays in the Anglican Church, died June 19 in London. He worked at Cambridge University for the past 35 years. William Turnbull, 62, an architect who forged new directions in home design with his Sea Ranch project on the northern California coast, died of lung cancer Thursday in Sausalito, Calif. Turnbull was best known for his spare wood homes with their clean lines. His philosophy was that buildings should blend more with their natural environment, not damage or draw attention away from the land's own beauty.

He won more than 100 awards for design excellence. Dr. Forest D. Dodrill, 95, a pioneer in the use of mechanical heart pumps to assist in heart surgery, died Monday in Baltimore, Md. William Slater Brown, 100, one of the last survivors of the Lost Generation of writers whose restless, rebellious lives were shaped by World War I and the postwar bohemian society of New York City's Greenwich Village, died lune 22 at his home in Rockport, Mass.

Brown was a hard-drinking, hard-smoking, womanizing writer whose circle of close friends was formed by people who went on to become some of the most prominent figures of 20th-century American letters: e.e. cummings, Hart Crane, Malcolm Cowley, Edmund Wilson, Djuna Barnes, Eugene O'Neill, Kenneth Burke, Matthew Josephson, John Dos Passos and Edna St. Vincent Millay. Kenneth Dale McCormick, 91, who joined Dou-bleday in 1930 as a clerk and became its longtime editor in chief and a major figure in book publishing, died of a stroke Friday in New York City. Gang also was an award-winning stage actor and director in community and professional theater all over the Midwest.

He acted with the Lake-' shore Players and was the group's president from 1964 to 1967. He also was active in the community, holding leadership positions in the St. Paul Rotary Club, the Humane Society of Ramsey County, the St. Paul Athletic Club, the Minneapolis Business Forum and the Minnesota Masons. Gang is survived by his wife, Marjorie, and stepchildren Linda Paul of Aiea, 111., and David Paul, of Oshkosh, Wis.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Historic Fort Snelling Chapel in Stuart A. Gang of Roseville, former chairman emeritus of Gang Carlson Cunico died Sunday morning. He was 68. He earned a bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Minnesota, then worked as a reporter for WCCO Radio, WCCO-TV, KSTP-TV and WTCN-TV, now KARE-TV.

In 1957, he became coordinator of education television for Minnesota's private liberal arts colleges and producer of the Minnesota Private College Hour on KTCA-TV. Gang opened an advertising and public relations firm in 1959. Over the years, it operated as Gang Withy Stu Gang and Associates and Gang Carlson Cunico the name it carried from 1987 until Gang retired in 1989. Paul home on June 26. Born in Sydney. Australia, he had lived in St. Paul for over 40 years. For 36 years he was a valued research scientist for 3M, where his creative work contributed to numerous new products and seven patents for the company.

He retired in 1989 to his home in St. Anthony Park, where he and his wife, Eileen have been restoring their historic home built by Governor Andrew McGill. Loving husband and companion to his wife of 36 years; nurturing father to Beth Ann Dorman and husband Don of Boise, ID. Hilary Hathaway and husband Randy of St. Paul.

William of St. Paul, and Jason and wife Lisa of Burnsville; doting Granddad to Anthony, Christopher, and Emily Dorman; Valerie and Andrew Hathaway, and Tyler and Alexander Stack. He is also survived by brothers. Dr. Dick Stack and wife Moira of Sydney, and Dr.

A man ot enormous generosity, remarkable intellect, and broad interests, he shared his talents, resources, and enthusiasms with both community and friends. Cofounder of the Down Under Club; board member of Music in the Park, board member and team leader with Eileen of National Marriage Encounter; euchanstic minister, lector, parish council member, and participant in Loaves and Fishes and Foodshelf in Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Roseville; active supporter ot St. Anthony Park Association.
