A woman was shot to death outside the Loma Linda University Medical Center emergency room Sunday by a man who fled with her child, authorities said. The woman, who was not identified, was taken inside the hospital for treatment, but died soon afterward, said Loma Linda spokeswoman Anita Rockwell.

The woman had arrived at the hospital seeking treatment for herself and her child, who were both suffering from flu symptoms, officials said. The gunman, who was believed to be the woman's husband, left with her 4-year-old son, police said. The killing marked the second violent outburst at a Southern California hospital within a week. Besides his daughters Berneda and Darlene, he is survived by his wife, Philip Velasco, 84, whose trio played the Waikiki Room at the old Nicollet and Leamington hotels in Minneapolis for 28 years, died of complications from asthma Friday in Phoenix. Velasco, formerly of Minneapolis, was living with a daughter, Darlene Manuel. He was born in the Philippines and immigrated to the United States in the early 1930s. He wanted to become a doctor but lacked the money for medical school.

In the 1940s, he and two fellow Filipinos formed a band that played throughout the United States. Velasco played steel guitar in the band, which performed with Benny Goodman and Tommy Dorsey. He also played with Peggy Lee on a North Michael Heller, 92, an original Minneapolis Globetrotter Michael B. Heller, 92, one of the original members of the Minneapolis Globetrotters basketball team, died Saturday at his home in Minneapolis. He was born in Minneapolis and raised in Oklahoma.

In the 1920s he played with the Globetrotters, a small group of local college athletes who played the top amateur and professional basketball teams around the country. One year they won 64 games. The group was not affiliated with the Harlem Globetrotters basketball team. The Minneapolis Globetrotters played at the gymnasium at Ascension Church in Minneapolis. Heller quit when the team moved to the West Coast.

Heller was in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He worked at Ford Motor Co. in Minneapolis and was a truck driver and foreman at Gluek Brewing Co. in Minneapolis. He enjoyed fishing and was a member of Westphal American Legion Post 251.

He is survived by his wife, Emily, and a son, Jerome Witzman, of Minneapolis. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Bridget's Church, 3811 Emerson Av. Minneapolis.

However, meters on the University of Minnesota campus will be enforced. sriT Fred (Marshall) Moe, 50, president of Merit Gage in St. Louis Park and Watertown, S.D., died of a heart attack Saturday while ice fishing on Lake Minnetonka. Moe, of Minnetonka, was born in Minneapolis and graduated from Roosevelt High School.

He attended Norfh Dakota State University and the University of Minnesota. He then starting working full time at Merit Gage, which was started by his father, Fred, at a gas station he owned in Minneapolis in 1953. The precision machine business expanded and moved to St. Louis Park in 1968. Ten years later, another plant was opened in Watertown, S.D.

"He has been with the company for more than 30 years and started by washing floors and painting walls," said his brother, Leland, of Savage, vice president of the company. Fred Moe became president in 1986. He was active at the Hiawatha branch of the YMCA and was a member of the Joppa Lodge 300 in St. Louis Park. He loved the outdoors and taught many people to fish and hunt.
