Division title. "Very few clubs spend time with the mental part of the game," Misel said in 1985. "They do everything for the body. But what good is the body if the mind is no good? If you're loose, your concentration is high and your confidence level is high.

The mental stumbling blocks are pressing, tensing up and trying too hard. If you can get rid of the mental stumbling blocks, you can do well on a consistent basis." Misel grew up on the West Side of St. Paul and graduated from Humboldt High School. He was a star basketball nlaver and a member of the baseball Obituaries "The main thing he did was to put it in my mind to make the game more enjoyable," Braun said in a 1976 interview. "He said to go out and play like you did when you were a kid.

When you play 162 games, some days it's tough to get up for them. I thought about what he said and it helped me a lot." Misel was hired in 1983 by the Chicago White Sox to help bring relaxation and confidence to the players. The White Sox won the AL West title that year. The next season, he worked with about a dozen Chicago Cubs. The Cubs won the NL East joyed socializing with his friends.

Besides his brother Irving, of Wayza-ta, he is survived by another brother, Stanley, of Los Angeles, and a sister, Dorothy Misel, of St Paul. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Hodroff Sons, 671 S. Snell-ing St. Paul.

When he was discharged he practiced hypnosis in Washington, D.C., and in Canada.

He returned to his hometown about 20 years ago. He had operated the Institute of Hypnosis in the Lowry Medical Building since then. He was the subject of several articles in Sports Illustrated and many other magazines and newspapers. At one time, he coached a youth basketball team at the St. Paul Jewish Community Center.

He traveled ex- Ldifd in his sleep early Friday at his home in M. raul, apparently of a heart attack. Misel's brother Irving wasn't sure where Harvey Misel learned hypnosis, but he hypnotized hundreds of clients to help them with problems ranging from batting slumps to over-eating. Years ago, he worked individually with members of the 'Minnesota Twins, including outfielder Jim Eis-enreich, pitcher Jack O'Connor, second baseman Rod Carew, third baseman Eric Soderholm and designated hitter Steve Braun, but was never officially hired by the team. In 1976, Braun gave Misel partial credit for improving his batting average from .287 at the All-Star break to .320 in the second half of the season.
