"We lost a couple of men on the bases through running mistakes." He referred to the erasure of Tony Oliva at third base in the first inning, and to John Goryl trying for a double in the eighth inning. Harmon Killebrew, who leads the American League with 13 home runs, hit one over the center-field fence in the first game.

Harmon's last two homers have been over the center-field ramparts at Los Angeles and Baltimore. Also, his last three singles have gone up the middle. Killebrew offered no particular reason for his latest straightaway stroke, but good hitters always have said "You're at your hitting best when you hit the ball back through the middle." Pitcher Lee Stange broke a blister again on his right thumb, but it's not expected to keep him out of rotation. By Staff Writer LOS ANGELES, Calif. Pitcher Bo Belinsky of the Angels pitched the first walk-less game of his major league career in beating the Twins 4-1 in the first game Wednesday night.

"But I hit a man (Jimmie Hall), and I'm sorry about that," said Bo. "I wasn't throwing at him. All I wanted was to get the ball over the plate with something on it. The ball tailed into him and he couldn't get out of the way." Belinsky said he never hit a man in the face before, "And I don't think I ever pitched a game even in the minors without walking a man," Bo added. "I had a good fast ball and my screwball was sharp, too." Manager Bill Rigney of the Angels declared he had never seen Belinsky throw at a batter in his three seasons with the club.

Catcher Bob Rodgers of LoS Angeles noted that Belinsky's fast ball "tailed into Hall. Pitching depth? Six weeks ago, while in spring training, the Twins thought they had it. They said, "Camilo Pascual, Jim Kaat, Lee Stange and Dick Stigman make a good starting rotation. Jerry Arrigo, Jim Roland or Dwight Siebler will provide a good fifth starter and two good long relief men.

Bill Dailey heads a good relief corps. Bill Fischer, Bill Pleis and Jim Perry, along with any two of the aforementioned long relief men, round out a first-rate bullpen." Relief pitcher Ed Rakow stopped the Baltimore Orioles Hall Hit in Head by Pitch; No Fracture By Staff Writer LOS ANGELES, Calif. Outfielder Jimmie Hall of the Twins was hit on the left cheek bone by a pitch from Bo Belinsky of the Angels in the fifth inning of the first game Wednesday night. Hall, who never lost consciousness, was removed from the game and sent to Daniel Freeman Hospital for X-rays. Dr. Robert Kerlan, Los Angeles team physician, said Hall suffered no eye damage.

X-rays were negative, revealing no fracture of Hall's cheekbone. Physicians said Jimmie could play as soon as the swelling was reduced. Trainer George (Doc) Lentz hoped to have Hall ready for the weekend series with Boston. Jimmie, in attempting to duck the inside pitch, threw up his left hand and pulled the right side of his face clear, but turned the left side of his face into the ball. The ball hit Hall's hand first to partially break the force of the blow.

The stitches of the baseball were imprinted on Hall's face where he was hit. "I saw the pitch coming in but it was on me before I could get out of the way," Hall said. "I'm glad I got my hand up to absorb some of the force of the ball. I think that saved a fracture." tected the lead all the way, winning a 1-0 pitchers' duel against Sandy Koufax of the Los Angeles Dodgers Wed RESULTS WEDNESDAY Los Angeles 4, TWINS 1 (first name). Poor Bill Fischer, grand old competitor, could not help the staff.

Dailey has failed so far. Stigman has given no indication that he will help, and some indication that he won't. Siebler has been sent to Atlanta, to pitch his way back if he can. Those are the minus factors. The plus factors? Pascual is in strong winning stride.

Kaat has shaken his 1963 slump and is in his 1962 winning form. Roland, a doubtful asset because of his arm injury last year, has proved he can pitch and win. Stange had trouble early last season and had to be farmed out before he could start winning for the Twins. This year, he overcame his early season troubles much sooner and is a winner. NOT MUCH NEEDED A STARTING ROTATION OF PASCUAL, Kaat, Stange and Roland looks formidable, and Arrigo is winning acceptance as a fifth starter and sometime relief pitcher.

So what do the Twins need to present the pitching strength they promised in the spring? They need a return to form by Dailey, and Siebler to pitch his way off the Atlanta roster and back into the Twins' bullpen. That's about all. And it may very well happen that way. Dailey insists that he has always picked up after slow starts; and the feeling here is that Siebler is on the verge of being better than just a good relief pitcher. WHO PULLS STRINGS? ANGELO DUNDEE IS INVOLVED IN the handling of Cassius Clay, Sugar Ramos and Willie Pastrano, all world champions, and Luis Rodriguez, who is the world's best welterweight and has been champion.

This leads to the question: Who owns this stable of champions and challengers for which Dundee is the manservant? Or another question: Does the same unknown owner possess that other group of fighters handled by Gil Clancy in New York, who' is manager of record of champion Emile Griffith and most of the challengers and weekly TV fighters not under the handling of Angelo? Dundee and Clancy are not that great as handlers of boxers, yet they have a virtual monopoly on today's money makers. How come?
