Mayor Kepeats Refusal "I am willing to accept an responsible contract or contracts for the construction of tha auditorium within the $3,000,000 which the council may select if the city is protected by bond," Mayor ICach said. "The first block of bonds which the council plans to authorize Friday will not be signed by me under a program to construct the auditorium by day which in my opinion will waste at least $1,000,000 the taxpayers' money.

I will protect the taxpayers against any extravagant experiment, even to the extent of going to juil." Bond Issue Before Council The council Friday will be asked by the ways and means committee to authorize the sale of $500,000 worth of auditorium bonds at a rate of interest not to exceed 5 per cent, the money to be used for the purchase of the site for the auditorium. The ways and meaas committee, of which Alderman Albert G. Rastis is chairman, voted unanimously on motion of Alderman John I'eterson that the council authorize lie bond sale. It is accepted as a certainty that the issue will be authorized by the Labor Aldermen Fjrm Members of the council labor group today were as firm in their decision to build the auditorium by day labor as the mayor was tn his firm opposition to such plans. "The piayor's attitude will not pro-vent us from going ahead," Alderman Uisslen, a member of the labor group, raid.

"The auditorium will bo built by day labor If it Is built at all. The mayor is powerless to stop us. We will remain within the $3,000,000 limit, including the cost of the site, and will VHve the pcopltr money under the day labor plan. We will save the contractors' commission as well as money on the cast of materials." It will be possible for the city to obtain possession of the tract by August 1. according to City Attorney Cronin, who Is taking the preliminary steps to acquire the Ftevens-Grant property.

Aldermen expect that the work of excavating can be started at that time. BLACK SATEEN' 36-Inch black 40-IX. VOILE LA SUISSE rei-ma. rw panels and ruttlcs. Colors: Maize, peach, rose, green, gray, tan, navy, black.

A tour of the pavement of the United Slates on roller skates may be the next undertaking of Alba Hall, Globe Hotel, who experimented recently on the. pavements of Jefferson Highway between Minneapolis and Elk River.

"I was surprised at the condition of the pavements between here and Osseo," he said, "and I am arranging for a more extended trip on skates. "The result may bo the development of a new form of skate or the popularizing of roller skating wherever there are extensive pavements 'and sidewalks." ers on his skates on his trip up the Jefferson highway and he declares he will take along a dozen or more "spares" on his next attempt. "1 was surprised to find that I was not exhaused physically by my 40 miles on skates after a laff-off of severer years," he said. "This leads me to believe that I can make a tour of the country on skates, walking where the pavement is not good and conducting a general examination of the conditions of pavements throughout the United States." 36IX.
